Cenex is the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for low carbon & fuel cell technologies.
Set up as an industry-led public-private partnership, the aim of Cenex is to support UK industry in building competitive advantage based on national leadership in the global shift to a low carbon economy.
By encouraging the early market adoption of low carbon & fuel cell technologies in automotive applications, Cenex aims to assist UK industry to develop a supply chain capable of competing in global markets, as well as showcasing UK expertise to encourage inward investment and LCV2011 plays a significant part in this process.
The concept of a national Centre of Excellence for low carbon & fuel cell technologies arose from the recommendations made by the Automotive Innovation & Growth Team (AIGT), sponsored by the UK Department of Trade & Industry. The AIGT brought together leading figures from the UK automotive sector to identify and address the issues likely to have the greatest impact on the sector’s long-term profitability and productivity. Members of the AIGT highlighted the need for the motor industry in the UK to respond competitively to the challenges posted by a transition to low carbon & fuel cell technologies that is already underway and foresaw the creating of a cross-sectorial Centre of Excellence as the ideal means by which to catalyse innovation in this emerging industry sectors.
